what we believe
As a Baptist Church we are autonomous in our connections and relationships to other groups. For the purposes of cooperative missions, our church maintains a connection with the Tugalo Baptist Association, the Georgia Baptist Convention, The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF). Through these relationships our church is able to support local, state and national mission efforts, colleges, seminaries, children's homes, retirment homes, hunger relief, disaster relief, the work of thousands of missionaries across the globe, and many other ministires.
We affirm Jesus as God's Son, the Bible as God's Word, Salvation as God's Gift, and the Spirit as God in Us. The Bible is the only authority in teaching us what it means to be a community of Christ-followers. We will seek to be uncompromisingly faithful to the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ in order to "be" the people of God; the Church.
The following is a brief synopsis of our beliefs:
1. About God
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He is revealed to us in three persons: Father, Son, and Spirit. It is a mystery, but we say God is triune; three in one, co-equally God.
Genesis 1:1, 26, 27; 3:22 || Psalm 90:2 || Matthew 28:19 || 1 Peter 1:2 || 2 Corinthians 13:14
2. About You
You are made in the image of God and are loved by Him. You are the object of God's creation and love. Although you have tremendous potential for good, you are marred by distrust towards God called "sin." Your distrust keeps you away from God, even though God has already restored you by grace through the redemptive work of Christ. You must only love and trust Him.
Genesis 1:27 || Psalms 8:3-6 || Isaiah 53:6 || Romans 3:23 || Isaiah 59: 1-2
3. About Eternity
Humans were created to live forever. We will either live with God or without God. To be eternally without God is Hell. To be eternally with God is Heaven. Your eternity has already started and you are making the choice.
John 3:16 || 1 John 2:25; 5:11-13 || Romans 6:23 || Revelation 20:15
4. About Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is God incarnate; God, the Son, fully God. He is also the Son of Man, fully human. Jesus of Nazareth lived a sin-free life and demonstrated God's love perfectly through His life, death on the cross and resurrection from the grave.
Isaiah 9:6 || John 1:1-5; 14:10-30 || Hebrews 4:14-15 || 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4
5. About Salvation
Salvation is a gift from God to all who believe. We can not earn God's grace and forgiveness. We must accept His love by faith and love and worship Him. He promises to "save" those who call out to Him. Jesus' death on the Cross was the work of redemption and we must simply trust Christ's work of salvation. We believe that baptism and the Lord's Supper are pictures of our salvation, symbolic to us, and not to be regarded as the means of salvation or grace.
Romans 6:23 || Ephesians 2:8-9 || John 14:6; 1:12 || Titus 3:5 || Galatians 3:26 || Romans 5:1
6. About Eternal Security
Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is grace and the keeping power of God that gives us this security.
John 10:29|| 2I Timothy 1:12 || Hebrews 7:25; 10:10-14 || 1 Peter 1:3-5
7. About The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to help us live fruitful spiritual lives of faith. The Spirit convicts us, regenerates us and lives within us to guide, instruct, and empower us to fulfill God's will for us.
2 Corinthians 3:17 || John 16:7-13; 14:16-17 || Acts 1:8 || 2 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16 || Ephesians 1:13 Galatians 5:25 || Ephesians 5:18
8. About The Bible
The Bible is God's Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without error.
2 Timothy 3:16 || 2 Peter 1:20-21 || 2 Timothy 1:13 || Psalms 119:105, 160; 12:6 || Proverbs 30:51.
9. About The Church
We believe that the true Church is composed of all such persons who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of Christ, of which He is the head.
We further believe that each believer is in direct relation with God through Jesus Christ, consequently removing any relgious entity or heirarchy as an intermediary between God and man, making us all priests before God.
